Procurement

The Procurement team helps all of our business units with their procurement needs – ranging from office furniture to aircraft engines and inflight catering.

The team helps the business simplify and drive out unnecessary cost, while working with internal colleagues and suppliers to deliver a seamless and sustainable customer experience.

Some of the team's responsibilities include:

  • Helping suppliers to partner with the business to drive results across a range of value adding activities – commercial, innovation, operational and sustainable sourcing
  • Collaborating closely with all parts of the airline to understand their business plans and goals, and linking that to an in depth and progressive understanding of the markets we operate in
  • Delivering value-added buying strategies to support the business
  • Leveraging win-win commercial partnerships through disciplined but agile negotiation and contracting processes
  • Providing effective and efficient systems, processes and governance to unlock the full potential of the procurement function.

Commercial Performance

The Commercial Performance team leverages their expert knowledge of big data, systems, tools and supply market movements to identify sustainable efficiencies across Air New Zealand’s diverse global supply chain – providing a broad spectrum of analytics and support to a wide range of business partners throughout the airline.

Supply Chain

The Supply Chain is a diverse team that works on strategic procurement and contract management across Marketing, IT, Ancillary Revenue, Online, Inflight Entertainment and the other general corporate categories such as Properties and people. The team drives strategic supply chain advice and commercial counsel to both senior management and business owner stakeholders.

Engineering Supply Chain

The Air New Zealand Engineering Supply Chain is a business-critical team that supports billions of dollars worth of aircraft assets. It employs around 120 people who manage the supply of aircraft parts from around the world and control tens of thousand of lines of stock.

Property and Infrastructure

Our Property and Infrastructure division is made up of five teams including Master Planning, Leasing, Legal, Design and Construction, Change Management and Facilities Management.

The team works across Air New Zealand’s business units and the broader New Zealand and global economies to sustainably improve performance for our people based in close to 360 buildings and spaces we occupy globally.

Our responsibilities include:

  • Fostering a people safety culture that achieves our goal of zero workplace injuries for our employees, contractors and related parties
  • Delivering efficient, effective and sustainable property and infrastructure management to support all segments of Air New Zealand
  • Optimising our systems and processes to support the growth agenda
  • Exceeding our customers’ expectations in the delivery of inspiring lounges and public spaces
  • Delivering a ‘once in a generation’ capital works programme which addresses Air New Zealand infrastructure debt and provides world-class facilities along with new ways of working for our people.

Continuous Improvement

The Continuous Improvement team partners with colleagues to help create step-changes across our business that have the potential to improve Air New Zealand’s performance.
Their approach has three focuses – results focused programmes, pragmatic frameworks and tools, and a comprehensive Continuous Improvement curriculum.

Finance

Open

The Finance team provides the intellectual, commercial and financial knowledge that allows us to grow as a business and continue to be profitable.

Types of roles

Finance Managers

Each Finance Manager and their team supports a specific area of the business. The team reports on the financial performance of each business area to make sure we deliver the financial results that we have committed to. This includes setting targets and monitoring the delivery of these targets. The team is also responsible for all the financial governance within the company and the statutory report to all stakeholders.

Fixed Assets

The Fixed Assets team at is part of the wider Group Finance team. We provide advice on the types of costs which are capitalisable in nature, manage capital WIP projects, capitalise assets once the projects are complete, dispose and transfer assets, and co-ordinate stocktakes to ensure the accuracy of the airline's fixed asset register.

Investor Relations

Our Investor Relations Office is part of the wider Corporate Finance team. Our focus is on managing relationships and dialogue with existing shareholders and potential investors. We market Air New Zealand to the investment community through result releases, roadshows, publications, conferences and brokers.

Our team also bridges the information gap with the investment community to provide a better understanding and valuation of our company, provide shareholder and market feedback to the Executive team and provide a shareholder perspective in company decision-making processes.

Treasury

The Treasury team is part of the wider Corporate Finance team. It's role is to safeguard the company’s financial resources and manage exposure to financial risks.

In general it makes sure the company has the right amount of cash resources. Specific risks that Treasury manage include Liquidity Risk, Currency Risk, Jet Fuel Risk, Interest Rate Risk and Credit Risk. We also set the in-house currency rates that the business uses to convert foreign currency amounts into New Zealand Dollars.

Fleet Purchasing and Funding

The Fleet team in Corporate Finance manages relationships with manufacturers, aircraft financiers and leasing companies to make sure that we get the right aircraft at the right price, when we need them.

We then work to address any issues that come up over the course of the aircraft’s life cycle, taking into account the interests of lessors and financiers as well as Air New Zealand as an aircraft owner.

Financial Analysis

The Financial Analysis and Planning Team is responsible for coordinating the development of the airline’s medium term planning model which incorporates key strategic and business development initiatives. 

The team provides financial analysis for projects across the company, helping teams to achieve a successful financial outcome for Air New Zealand and making sure that the economic and strategic rationale for key investment decisions are well reasoned and will add economic value.

Group Shared Services

The Group Shared Services team provides shared business services to Air New Zealand’s worldwide operations. it works strategically and tactically with our wider financial, technical, operational and supply streams on project and process initiatives. Some of it's areas of expertise include payroll, passenger and cargo revenue accounting, account reconciliations, credit card settlements, accounts payable and receivable, staff travel, fraud, credit control, position management, employee queries, master data maintenance, passenger refunds and sales audit.

Group Taxation

The Group Taxation team is responsible for the management of tax matters across Air New Zealand. This includes strategy, consultancy, management of projects, compliance, effectiveness of systems and processes, contract reviews, engagement of external advisors, dealing with tax authorities, participating in relevant forums and all other tax matters.

Governance Risk and Compliance

The Governance, Risk and Compliance team oversee Air New Zealand’s strategy for managing the broad issues of corporate governance, enterprise risk management and corporate compliance.

Marketing and Customer

The Marketing and Communications team is responsible for protecting and enhancing the Air New Zealand brand. This includes working with advertising agencies, media companies, news outlets and philanthropic organisation to make sure our customers understand who we are, what we stand for and why they should travel with us.

Communications

The Communications team is responsible for managing the airline’s award-winning corporate reputation. The team works to protect and enhance the Air New Zealand brand in the eyes of our people, our customers and the communities in which we operate.

The team helps increase employee engagement and productivity by making sure Air New Zealanders feel connected to the airline’s purpose and promise, sharing success stories and keeping people up to date with what’s happening across the business.

The team works closely with the CEO and the Executive team on the communication of key business issues, as well as providing communications support for strategic, commercial and brand initiatives such as marketing and sales campaigns. It maintains strong relationships with local and global media organisations, and creates and delivers world-class events for both internal and external audiences - from annual parliamentary functions to in-house employee induction days.

Customer Experience

The Customer Experience team is responsible for engaging customers with our business by designing their experience across every touch point of their journey. We are focused on delivering a world-class customer experience through innovation and human-centred design.

As the voice of the Customer, the team sets the customer experience strategy for Air New Zealand – working closely and collaboratively with key partners across the business to make sure we meet customer, operational and commercial requirements throughout the process.

Customer Care

The Customer Care team delivers outstanding customer experiences every day. It defines the airline’s customer service policies and is responsible for ensuring compliance with overseas consumer legislation. The team is passionate about customer recovery and making sure Air New Zealand continues to be our customers’ airline of choice.

From solving issues and sourcing alternative flight options in disruptions to assisting with medical repatriations – the team is at its best when things haven’t gone as planned.

Customer & Market Insights

The Customer & Market Insights team are a partner to all areas of the business. It runs ongoing (tracking) and ad hoc research projects and provides analytical expertise to help Air New Zealand make the best possible business decisions. This covers areas as diverse as new product development, communications testing and satisfaction tracking.

It is Air New Zealand’s independent voice of the customer, advocating on their behalf, provoking internal conversations and challenging the status quo.

Government and Industry Affairs

The Government and Industry Affairs team connects Air New Zealand with external stakeholders in New Zealand and overseas. it works with local and national leaders to progress Air New Zealand’s interests and express our contribution to Supercharging New Zealand’s success. The team works with community partners that Air New Zealand supports, regional economic development agencies and leads Air New Zealand’s commitment to ensuring that Maori culture is reflected in both the customer and staff experience.

Global Brand and Content Marketing

The Global Brand and Content Marketing team are responsible for creating innovative and provocative brand experiences and communications through brand marketing, partnerships, content delivery and social media. The team are responsible for ensuring all staff members understand the brand tools and brand promise of “Liberating Travellers” as well as the brand values.

Account Managers

Our account managers sell a portfolio of Air New Zealand solutions to a set group of customers within an assigned territory. Our account managers manage the relationships with our retail and corporate accounts and put customers at the heart of everything they do.

Sales Support

Our sales support teams play a vital role in supporting our customer-facing sales teams and proactively managing their customer base.

  • Special handling requests for excess baggage, lounge access, seating and upgrades
  • Preparation of corporate proposals and contracts
  • Managing quotes and requests for group bookings
  • Management of corporate contracts and discounts
  • Reporting and analysis
  • Organisation of customer engagements and corporate hosting

Strategy, Networks & Alliances

The Strategy, Networks & Alliances team is focused on developing airline partnerships that grow Air New Zealand’s international presence and give our customers access to a global network.

The Strategy team works on initiatives across the business including:

  • Growth strategies
  • Market development and alliance relationships
  • Operation improvements
  • Pricing and portfolio development.

Networks

The Networks team deals with network strategy and competitor analysis.

It's responsible for:

  • Choosing where to fly, what aircraft configuration to use and which companies to partner with 
  • Deciding in what capacity Air New Zealand should operate in each market  
  • Correctly matching supply with demand in international and domestic markets to identify profitable growth opportunities and optimise network connectivity 
  • Determining the pattern of aircraft rotations required to deliver planned networks and secure necessary landing and departure slots 
  • Maintaining the integrity of the published schedule

Alliances

The Alliances team works on creating an industry-leading alliance portfolio that:

  • Creates profitable growth
  • Delivers commercial, customer and competitive benefits.

It also implements, manages and maintains Air New Zealand's core revenue share alliances to satisfy customer demand and improve customer service metrics to deliver on our Pacific Rim growth plan and business objectives.

What to expect when you start

Your first few weeks are largely focused on getting up to speed with understanding our business, our values and where to find the things you need.

You’ll have access to online learning modules, as well as an invite to attend our much loved and talked about induction, ‘Kia ora you’ where you’ll meet other new starters and get to hear about what goes on in other departments across Air New Zealand.
