Forward Planner

Kia ora!

Help shape the maintenance strategy and operational resilience that keeps our fleet safe, compliant, and ready to fly. As a Forward Planner, your work will directly maximise aircraft availability and ensure critical maintenance activity is delivered seamlessly across the network.

This permanent opportunity sits within Air New Zealand’s Part 119 Continuing Airworthiness Maintenance Organisation, reporting to the Engineering Planning Chapter and working closely with the Aircraft Availability Tribe. The purpose of the Aircraft Availability Tribe is clear, to maximise aircraft availability through integrated plans that ensure the safe and timely completion of fleet maintenance tasks. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering Civil Aviation Part 119 CAMO planning responsibilities. This includes managing, producing, scheduling and coordinating maintenance activity to ensure safety, regulatory compliance and operational readiness.

Air New Zealand is on a journey to continually strengthen operational resilience and performance. Within our maintenance planning environment, you will collaborate across our Supply Chain, Engineering and Maintenance stakeholders, internal and external MRO partners, and network teams to deliver forward looking, integrated plans that protect fleet compliance and airworthiness.

About the role

  • Develop and maintain short, medium, and long-term maintenance forecasts to support long range maintenance planning, including IATA seasonal planning and 5 year plus alignment to ensure accepted and integrated fleet plans
  • Proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks to fleet availability and airworthiness.
  • Coordinate with MROs and Network teams to secure maintenance slots and confirm plan acceptance well in advance
  • Set up scheduled light maintenance early to enable smooth transition to the Short Term and Operational Teams
  • Develop and issue detailed work packages for aircraft base maintenance visits including A-checks, C-checks, retrofit, and end of lease activity. Including providing CAMO planning oversight in supporting post scope of work actions and post check reviews
  • Proactively plan significant out of phase tasks, including modification programmes, deferrals, and component stagger strategies
  • Ensure engineering requirements, milestones and expected outcomes are met in a timely and cost-effective manner in line with customer/company policies and applicable regulations
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that improve planning capability, efficiency, and business outcomes

What we’re looking for

  • A background in aircraft engineering or maintenance, with strong operational understanding
  • Knowledge of CAANZ regulations and maintenance programmes, ideally within a Part 119 environment
  • Experience working in an agile or adaptive operating environment, with the ability to respond to changing priorities while maintaining compliance and control
  • Sound judgement under regulatory and operational pressure
  • Experience working with SAP (or equivalent) in a maintenance or planning context
  • Strong communication skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate risk and plan ahead in a complex, dynamic environment

What we can offer you

  • Discounted flights for you and your whānau
  • FlexiLeave, giving you the option to purchase up to four extra weeks of leave each year
  • Access to Koruhealth medical expense cover and discounted Southern Cross health insurance
  • Superannuation options through KiwiSaver or FlexiSaver with matching contributions up to 4 percent
  • A strong learning culture with development opportunities that support your long-term growth
