Senior Continuous Improvement Specialist

The Lean chapter, part of the Agile & Lean Centre of Excellence, provides support to the business units in Air New Zealand by growing capability in continuous improvement practices & tools and facilitating/driving/coordinating/advising on improvement initiatives.

To continue the work on embedding a culture of continuous improvement through our Full Potential strategy, we have an opportunity for a Senior Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist to join our chapter as the Lean support for our Centre of Excellence.

This role will work collaboratively with the Delivery Unit and squads on improving process efficiency and customer experience and provide training and coaching on CI/Lean techniques. The role also includes identifying and driving performance improvement opportunities through digital enablement initiatives.

Experience we're looking for this role:

  • You hold a Green Belt and are preferably working towards your Black Belt qualification
  • Exposure and relative aviation Continuous Improvement qualifications
  • Significant CI experience & proven professional skills, including experience with CI tools like LEAN/Six Sigma. (Target 5+ years of experience using, coaching, and deploying Lean / Six Sigma / Project Management methodologies).
  • Graduate level University degree in relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience of working consistently at the Gemba with stakeholders with positive improvement results
  • Strong experience with analysis, project management, change management and facilitation skills to engage the business around CI tools and education at front line and senior manager level.
  • Demonstrated experience in review, design and implementation of process improvement/change initiatives in the business
  • Experience in leading Digital implementation and/or improvement initiatives, ideally involving new and innovative technologies like Generative AI
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviours and a consultative approach, with proven experience as a business partner in the implementation of CI.

The position is full-time, permanent and based in Christchurch. Your ability to travel at short notice within New Zealand and work varying shifts to meet the needs of your customers will be key to your success in the position.
