Senior Mobile Engineer (Android)

As a Senior Mobile Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in bringing Air New Zealand’s digital ambition to life. Your work will directly power the mobile experiences that help customers search, book, manage, and enjoy their journeys, delivering seamless, reliable interactions at scale.

Within our Digital team, you will join a group of bold thinkers and builders who are redefining how technology supports travel. You will work in a dedicated product squad, collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Engineering peers to create intuitive, high performing Android applications that serve customers across Aotearoa and around the globe.
How you’ll make an impact
• Design and develop advanced Android applications that support millions of customer interactions each year
• Contribute to scalable, secure, and high-performance architecture that enables rapid product evolution
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UI and UX Designers, and backend engineers to translate ideas into elegant mobile solutions
• Improve app performance, reliability, and maintainability through continuous optimisation and technical excellence
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex bugs and performance issues to ensure a seamless customer experience
• Champion modern Android practices and help uplift engineering standards across the squad
What you’ll bring
• Extensive experience in Android development within complex, production environments
• Deep expertise in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, with working knowledge of Java
• Strong understanding of Android SDK, RESTful APIs, and modern mobile architecture patterns
• Experience with Swift, backend for frontend patterns, deployments, or AWS, advantageous but not essential
• A passion for clean, maintainable code and delivering quality at pace
• The ability to thrive in a fast paced, collaborative product environment
