Environmental & Hazardous Substance Compliance Coordinator

We have a permanent full-time opportunity to join our Compliance and Contracts team within Aircraft Maintenance and Delivery as an Environmental & Hazardous Substance Compliance Coordinator.

In this key regulatory and advisory role, you will lead and support the environmental and hazardous substance management strategies for Air New Zealand’s Aircraft Maintenance and Delivery business unit. You will ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act in 2017 legislation, lead emergency preparedness initiatives, and act as the primary advisor for environmental risk across Aircraft Maintenance and Delivery.

About the Role

  • Champion HSNO/environmental awareness through training, communication, and operational engagement
  • Lead the development and delivery of Emergency Response Plans for hazardous areas across Aircraft Maintenance and Delivery
  • Maintain expertise in relevant legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act, Resource Management Act, Electricity Act, Civil Aviation Act and associated regulations, standards and codes of practice
  • Provide specialist environmental risk assessments, audits, and advice to support operational decisions and ensure alignment with best practice
  • Develop and maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned with group environmental goals and compliance frameworks
  • Liaise with certifiers, emergency services, and regulatory authorities to ensure Air New Zealand Aircraft Maintenance and Delivery’s readiness and compliance across all hazardous operations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support safe, compliant infrastructure development and maintenance

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced professional who brings the following:

  • A qualification in a business-related field or equivalent experience in hazard management, health & safety, or environmental compliance
  • Proven experience managing Health and Safety at Work Act in 2017 legislation and environmental responsibilities in large infrastructure or operations-focused environments
  • Sound understanding of hazardous substances legislation and safety regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply them in a commercial setting
  • Experience conducting audits, managing risk assessments, and advising senior stakeholders on regulatory and compliance matters
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to effectively engage with internal teams and external agencies
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a passion for driving safety and sustainability outcomes
