External Reporting Manager Sustainability

We have a 14-month fixed term opportunity for an External Reporting Manager Sustainability (Senior Finance Specialist) to play a critical role in strengthening how Air New Zealand reports, assures, and stands behind its climate-related disclosures. In this role, you will help build confidence in our sustainability reporting, ensuring we meet regulatory expectations while supporting long term value for our business, customers, and communities.

Sitting within Group Finance, this role exists to bring rigour, consistency and assurance to our greenhouse gas emissions reporting and Climate Statement. You will work closely with Group Finance, the Sustainability team, and external auditors to ensure our reporting stands up to scrutiny. Your key responsibilities

  • Prepare the Group’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory reporting using the BraveGen carbon accounting system
  • Co-ordinate information requests and act as the key liaison with external auditors in completing an assurance engagement over greenhouse gas emissions which are reported as part of the climate-related disclosures
  • Support preparation of the Group’s Climate Statement in accordance with the Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards
  • Provide support for the preparation of current and anticipated climate-related financial impacts reported within the Group’s Climate Statement, including maintaining effective record keeping for supporting evidence
  • Support the Sustainability team on emissions accounting matters, including in relation to Sustainable Aviation Fuel
  • Support regulatory inspection processes if required.

What we’re looking for

  • You will also possess at least 8 years’ experience in sustainability or financial reporting with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in greenhouse gas reporting, auditing and/or climate-related disclosures in either a large corporate environment, a Big 4 Chartered Accounting firm or sustainability consultancy
  • Confidence managing external auditors, including planning, negotiation and delivery against tight deadlines
  • Experience with BraveGen carbon accounting system is preferred
  • Experience designing or improving reporting processes, systems and internal controls
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work across Finance and Sustainability teams to deliver shared outcomes
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into clear, defensible documentation
  • A proven track record of engaging and managing various stakeholders.
