Operational Integrity and Assurance Manager – Investigations

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced safety leader to join the Operational Safety team in the role of Operational Integrity and Assurance Manager - Investigations. This is a people and thought leadership role, essential to our airline Safety Management System (SMS).

The role sits within Operational Safety, a 'Centre of Excellence' comprised of skilled safety specialists who are focused on the safe enablement of our business outcomes. Our activities include safety investigation, safety audit, SMS enablement, risk management, safety intelligence and reporting, and safety promotion. We are part of the wider Operational Integrity & Safety (OI&S) team, which promotes and supports the safety, health, and security of our people and operations, to ensure safe journeys for our customers. 

The Operational Integrity and Assurance Manager - Investigations is responsible for leading our operational safety investigations, by employing progressive investigation techniques and Just Culture principles, so that safety improvement opportunities are identified. This contributes to our overall management of safety risk to prevent future accident or harm events.

The successful candidate will lead a team of Safety Specialists with a focus on their safety investigation craft, development, wellbeing, and execution of safety investigation responsibilities in accordance with standards and best practice. They will provide safety investigation leadership across the airline, by promoting a coordinated and consistent application of best practice safety investigation methodologies.   

They will fulfil the role of Senior Person Occurrence Investigations for Air New Zealand's Part 119 Air Operator Certificate (AOC), Part 141 Aviation Training Organisation (ATO) certificate, and other regulatory certificates as directed.
 
Ko wai koe | About you 
We are looking for a leader with experience in influencing and coaching diverse teams to achieve business goals.  The following attributes are essential:

  • Aviation safety investigation qualifications or equivalent industry training
  • Advanced knowledge of SMS and its application in practice
  • Hold or have held an Airline Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL) or equivalent aviation technical qualification
  • Experience in leading aviation safety investigations at an airline or large organisation level
  • Five or more years' experience in large complex organisations in a leadership position
  • Extensive aviation experience, ideally in airline flight operations involving large aircraft
  • Experience in fostering constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, front-line personnel, unions, and regulators
  • Proven record of systems thinking and continuous improvement practices
  • Previous CAA Senior Person acceptance and/or suitable experience and qualifications to meet CAA requirements for a 'Senior Person Occurrence Investigations' for a large airline.
