Within the Air New Zealand 'Kia Mau Thrive Strategy', one of the fundamental business drivers is 'Prioritising People and Safety' - building a rewarding place to work, with an uncompromising focus on keeping staff, their families and our customers safe. The Operational Integrity and Safety Team plays a significant role in this strategy with a dedicated People Safety Team to provide leadership to reduce harm and optimise performance through Manaakitanga and Kaitiakitanga - caring for our people, our place and our connections.
To support our proactive management of Risks, Relationships and Resources, we are looking for a full-time People Safety Specialist (Assurance) position within our People Safety Assurance team based in Auckland. The role is a fixed-term contract covering parental leave for a period of 14 months, and is based in Auckland near the airport. This team has seven members including Senior Assurance Specialists as well as two other Assurance Specialists that you will be working closely with on a daily basis. This role provides foundational outputs of safety event report triaging and low-risk event management, coaching and guidance for people in the business. Intermediate delivery outputs will include event report triage analysis and data cleansing; data interpretation and communications in the form of Safety eBoard communications; and analysis of various lag and lead data content for business information reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly); and possible involvement with safety scrums and training package improvements. Advanced delivery outputs will eventually include elevated risk event investigation assistance and guidance, audit support; and risk system improvement work.
Knowledge and understanding of ISO45001 would be beneficial and you will be encouraged to recommend improvements to our HSEW Management System. You will have strong organisational skills with attention to detail and be able to build rapport with people as you will provide technical advice and coaching capability working closely with the other People Safety Teams, especially the Wellbeing and Injury Management Team and the Business Partnering Team, across multiple levels of the airline to deliver optimal People Safety outcomes for the business. You will have demonstrated competency in health and safety preferably through a certified national qualification or subject matter knowledge through industry experience and professional training. (Reference H&S Generalist Advisory level: https://www.healthandsafety.govt.nz/assets/Documents/A-Guide-for-Individuals.pdf). This role fits within Step 2 of 5 of our internal People Safety Assurance Craft Descriptor reference.
