We are seeking a resolute Programme Director (Senior Property and Infrastructure Specialist) to join our Property & Infrastructure team based in Auckland.

Reporting to the General Manager (Tribe Lead) Property & Infrastructure, you will be responsible for leading our largest development programme, currently underway at the Auckland Jetbase.  This includes 14 individual projects, each ranging in value from a few million up to $150 million.    The Programme Director will lead a team of project managers who will each be responsible for delivering the individual projects.  You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, development partners, project management and delivery teams to  ensure that capital works projects are well governed and brilliantly executed

The role will be instrumental in supporting Air New Zealand's strategic objectives by driving the successful implementation of key infrastructure and building projects.

These key infrastructure and building projects include the following:

  • Develop a comprehensive masterplan for the Auckland Jetbase
  • Identify individual projects, allocate the required resources and oversea the projects from initial feasibility stage through to project approval and delivery
  • This programme will include the construction of new hangars and workshops at the Auckland Jetbase to meet the future needs of Air New Zealand
  • Consolidate and modernise our office and maintenance facilities, to improve efficiency and sustainability
  • Demolish or repurpose redundant buildings as they are they are vacated

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management Leadership:

  • Work with our project managers to define project objectives, scope, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Help develop and implement project management plans, strategies, and methodologies.
  • Oversee consultant and contractor procurement and administration of contracts.
  • Lead and oversee the execution of multiple capital works projects concurrently.
  • Establish project governance protocols and ensure adherence to relevant standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Facilitate project risk reviews, mitigation strategies and monitoring of implementation.
  • Manage, guide and support various project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and coordination.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, finance, and procurement, to ensure alignment of requirements against business objectives and effective communication.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and local authorities, to establish strong relationships and address project requirements.
  • Effectively communicate project progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders at various levels.
  • Address stakeholder concerns, manage expectations, and ensure alignment with project goals.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop, establish, and manage project budgets, together with the engaged Quantity Surveyor, ensuring financial discipline and accountability.
  • Coordinate resource allocation, both internal and external, to ensure optimal utilisation and efficiency.
  • Identify and escalate resource constraints to General Manager (Tribe Lead), or budget deviations, proposing mitigation strategies as required.

Quality and Safety Assurance:

  • Implement and monitor quality management systems to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Oversee safety protocols and procedures to minimise risks and promote a safe working environment.
  • Convene and participate in regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality and safety requirements.
  • Oversee the closeout process, including documentation, handover, and lessons learned.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare regular progress reports, status updates, programme and project risk registers, and presentations for key stakeholders and senior management.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, specifications, change orders, and other relevant records.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication of project-related information across the organisation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 15+ years experience in the property and construction industry
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of design principles, project management methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise competing demands.
  • Sound understanding of construction practices, building codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in establishing, managing budgets and financial performance
