Simulator Engineer

As a Simulator Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring Air New Zealand’s flight simulators and training systems are reliable, available and operating to the highest standards. Your work will directly support safe and effective pilot training, helping our people build the skills and confidence they need to operate every flight safely.

This role supports a 24/7 training operation and is worked on a rotating shift roster. You'll be part of a team that provides around-the-clock technical support to ensure simulator availability for flight crew training. 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and rectify simulator and training system faults to minimise downtime and maintain operational availability 
  • Complete preventative maintenance activities efficiently and in accordance with company and regulatory standards 
  • Conduct regular serviceability checks and sign off equipment readiness to ensure training schedules are delivered without disruption 
  • Maintain simulator hardware, electronic systems, and software components to support high reliability and performance outcomes 
  • Deliver system enhancements and upgrades that improve capability, performance and operational efficiency 
  • Document maintenance activities, upgrades and technical findings accurately to support compliance and knowledge sharing 
  • Collaborate with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders to continuously improve systems, processes, and team performance. 

What we’re looking for 

  • Electrical Service Technician registration 
  • Experience in electronic maintenance, including board-level fault finding and repair 
  • Computer hardware and software programming experience 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions 
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across teams 
  • Commitment to safety, compliance and maintaining high technical standards 
  • Experience working with simulators, training devices, aviation systems, or other complex technical environments would be an advantage, but is not essential.
