Mobile Engineer (Android)

Kia ora!

Help shape the future of digital travel experiences at Air New Zealand.

We’re looking for an Android Mobile Engineer to join our Customer Touchpoints team and help deliver seamless, high-performing mobile experiences used by millions of customers across Aotearoa and around the world. This is a newly created role within our customer mobile app space, giving you the opportunity to influence how we build, evolve, and scale our Android capability from the ground up.

Air New Zealand is on an accelerated journey to become the world’s leading digital airline. You’ll work alongside talented product, design, and engineering specialists to create intuitive mobile experiences that make travel simpler, smarter, and more connected. With strong backing for innovation and modern engineering practices, this is a place where your ideas can have visible enterprise impact.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build and enhance native Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Deliver high-quality mobile features from concept through to release and ongoing support
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA and Engineers in an agile product environment
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing practices, and app store deployment processes
  • Support mobile solutions that meet performance, accessibility, security, and usability standards
  • Help identify and reduce technical debt to improve long-term product quality and maintainability
  • Provide reliable application support and contribute to continuous improvement across the mobile platform.

What we’re looking for

  • At least 2+ years’ experience in software engineering, including native Android development
  • Strong experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Understanding of mobile application architecture, engineering patterns, and release practices
  • Experience working with testing frameworks, CI/CD tooling, and version control systems
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, mobile dependency management, observability, and crash analysis
  • Knowledge of Agile or Lean delivery practices and collaborative product team environments
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
  • Exposure to backend-for-frontend patterns and cloud platforms such as AWS is an advantage, not essential.

If you bring most of this experience, along with transferable skills and the drive to grow, we’d love to hear from you.

What’s in it for you

We want our people to live their best lives and access great benefits that support their lives outside work.

  • Discounted travel on Air New Zealand and partner airlines for you, your friends, and whānau
  • FlexiLeave, giving you the option to purchase up to four extra weeks of leave each year
  • A strong learning culture with development opportunities and hands-on growth across modern technologies

At Air New Zealand, you’ll join a team that values curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Whether you’re looking to deepen your Android expertise, work on large-scale customer products, or help shape the future of digital travel, this is your opportunity to make an impact.
