Site Reliability Engineer

Help build and support the reliable digital platforms that keep Air New Zealand moving. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will play an important role in ensuring our technology services are secure, resilient, and available when our customers and people need them most. 

In this role, you will work alongside engineers, product teams, and platform specialists to improve service reliability, automate operational processes, and contribute to the delivery of scalable, high-performing solutions.  

About the role 

  • Support the reliability, availability, and performance of critical business platforms and services 
  • Investigate and resolve incidents, helping restore services quickly and minimise customer impact  
  • Troubleshoot issues across applications, infrastructure, integrations, and cloud environments 
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure 
  • Build and enhance automation, monitoring, and observability capabilities to improve operational efficiency 
  • Partner with development teams to embed reliability, supportability, and operational readiness into new solutions 
  • Participate in incident management activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Take part in an on-call roster supporting business-critical systems where required 

What we're looking for 

  • Experience in Site Reliability Engineering, cloud engineering, platform engineering, systems engineering, or a related technology discipline 
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud 
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation 
  • Scripting or automation experience using Python, Shell, PowerShell, or similar technologies 
  • Understanding of monitoring, observability, incident management, and operational support practices 
  • Knowledge of networking, operating systems, and modern infrastructure technologies 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for improving reliability and operational excellence 
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
