Software Engineer (Microservices)

Our Software Engineers provide backend API and integration software engineering skills to a dedicated Product team focused on building, testing and supporting new and existing software applications. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual who thrives on challenges and is eager to contribute to innovative digital solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality Java (Spring Boot framework) services, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, UI/UX designers, and QA Engineers as well as other software engineers from varied specialties.   

The Role You Will Play: 

  • Design and develop advanced REST APIs and event driven integrations for Air New Zealand customers and employees. 
  • Collaborate with product managers, app developers, UI/UX designers, and architects.  
  • Improve application performance, reliability, and maintainability.  
  • Identify and resolve bugs and performance issues.  
  • Stay updated with the latest development technologies and best practices.  
  • Participate in the architectural design of scalable, secure, and high-performance apps from a backend and data perspective.  

What You Will Bring to This Role: 

  • 2+ years' experience working as a software engineer. 
  • A good understanding of RESTful API principles and design philosophy. 
  • Experience in Java and Spring Boot development.  While Java is our programming language of choice, we value experience from any strongly typed programming language if you are motivated to learn and use Java. 
  • An understanding of microservices architecture. 
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools and practices to improve code quality, delivery efficiency, and learning. 
  • Some experience developing event driven integration applications is a bonus. 
  • Some cloud platform experience. AWS is preferred, but Azure or Google Cloud experience is also highly valued. 
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks and practices. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
