Sustainability Manager - Responsible and Sustainable Sourcing

As we continue to enhance our approach to source responsibly and use our purchasing power for good, we are seeking a dedicated Sustainability Manager to develop and implement a responsible and sustainable sourcing programme.
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Responsible & Sustainable Sourcing, the role supports the development and implementation of Air New Zealand’s responsible and sustainable sourcing programme, integrating sustainability considerations into procurement and encouraging sustainable supply chain practices.
This role will work collaboratively with suppliers on shared sustainability goals. This includes using their expertise to advocate and advise on supply chain sustainability, support measuring the programme’s impact, identifying opportunities for improvement within the supply chain, and ensuring adherence to supply chain sustainability standards and regulations, such as annual modern slavery reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement Air New Zealand’s responsible and sustainable sourcing strategy and programme, including relevant policies, standards, and processes.
- Manage ESG risks and opportunities in the supply chain, ensure compliance with regulation, and promote best practice in relation to supply chain sustainability matters, such as emissions, biodiversity and nature, human rights, circular economy, and supplier diversity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly Procurement, Legal and Risk, to assess and improve supply chain ESG risks and practices.
- Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and other external stakeholders, cultivating strategic partnerships and influencing positive impacts.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities to drive sustainability impact through supplier partnerships and procurement.
- Conduct risk assessments and audits to evaluate potential and existing suppliers’ sustainability performance.
- Educate internal teams on responsible and sustainable sourcing practices and provide guidance on integrating sustainability considerations into procurement decisions.
Ideal experience:
- Experience in responsible and sustainable sourcing, supplier engagement, compliance and/or auditing.
- Knowledge of global and domestic supply chain sustainability issues and best practice.
- Understanding of frameworks, standards, and tools available in the context of sustainable sourcing and supply chain due diligence and transparency.
- Experience assessing sustainability performance and driving positive outcomes and continuous improvement, particularly in supply chains.
- University degree in sustainability, human rights, business, procurement, supply chain, legal or similar discipline, or equivalent experience in sustainable procurement or supply chain sustainability.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to track progress against commitments and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Confident communicator, able to influence at all levels.
