Workforce Management Strategy and Optimisation Specialist
Kia ora!
After recently being voted as New Zealand's most attractive employer, Air New Zealand is continually capturing the world's attention for its great culture, outstanding customer service and innovations that are truly cutting edge.
We are seeking a Workforce Strategy and Optimisation Specialist to join our dynamic team and help shape the future of our airline operations. This role will be based in Auckland at our Airport Campus.
In this role in the Workforce Management Strategy and Optimisation Chapter, you’ll contribute to the delivery of workforce initiatives that improve operational efficiency, optimise crew utilisation, and support continuous improvement across Air New Zealand. You’ll be involved in cross-functional squads focused on designing and implementing effective workforce solutions across Air (Pilots, Cabin Crew) and Ground (Airports, Maintenance) operations. This is a highly collaborative environment where your work will influence both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic outcomes.
The role you will play:
- Contribute to the design and implementation of workforce management strategies, processes, and tools (e.g. rostering, pairing, training, and resource planning).
- Support or lead cross-functional projects aligned with operational priorities and business objectives.
- Apply data analysis and modelling techniques to identify trends, uncover inefficiencies, and develop actionable insights.
- Ensure workforce plans are compliant with regulatory obligations, union agreements, and internal policies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across fleet, unions, legal, digital, finance, and HR to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
- Present recommendations and insights to stakeholders, contributing to operational and strategic decision-making.
- Influence decision-making at the leadership level, mentor junior team members, and guide the development of workforce strategy maturity across the organisation.
You’ll succeed in this role if you bring:
- Experience in workforce management, operations planning, or a related field—within aviation or a similarly complex environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfort with data tools such as Excel, databases, or optimisation software.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work well in cross-functional teams.
- A willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Leadership in workforce strategy, domain expertise, and experience delivering change initiatives.
In return!
This is a rare opportunity to influence strategic workforce management and contribute to Air New Zealand’s success. You’ll work with passionate teams, take part in exciting projects, and help deliver a world-class travel experience that embodies our values of manaaki and innovation.
