Cloud Platform Lead

The Cloud Platform Lead (Internal Job Title: Senior Infrastructure Operations Specialist), reports to the Chapter Lead of Cloud and Digital Infrastructure. The purpose of the role is to apply product management practices, technical leadership, and operational oversight of Cloud platforms in support of Digital product and app teams.

Key Outputs - working within the Cloud Platforms Squad and across Digital Platforms Tribe as a subject matter expert while leveraging Air NZ’s Product Owner practices:

  • Develop, own, and execute the vision, strategy, standards, and guidelines for Air New Zealand's Cloud platform portfolio, including specialist Operational and Governance tools, and a diverse range of AWS and Azure cloud services.
  • Own, define, and execute the product roadmap for the portfolio, which will include the prioritisation of new development, driving forward architectural strategy, and advocating for the user community.
  • Enable internal teams by focusing on user self-service approaches to platform operation, reducing toil and improving developer experience.
  • Drive continual platform enhancements and balance the operational needs of the platform with customer-driven improvements. Be accountable for risk mitigation and compliance. 
  • Manage 3rd party providers in the delivery of platform services. This includes key relationships with our Hyperscale cloud service providers and our system integrators.
  • Ensure technical platforms are maintained and managed to 24 x 7 operational performance service levels. 
  • Lead an agile squad of architects, technical specialists, and engineers who provide subject matter expertise, technical consultancy, and service delivery to meet the current and expected demands of Air New Zealand.
  • Support the development of FinOps practices across the business. Support the business administration of the platforms alongside our Finance Business Partners.

Skills and Work Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in leading, coaching, and motivating technical teams.
  • Subject matter expertise in Cloud Governance frameworks within AWS and Azure environments. Experience with DevOps & Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices is expected.
  • Ability to apply technical expertise, continuous delivery, and operational support in complex environments.
  • Business partnering and/or consultancy background desired, including demonstrated ability to understand and appreciate the demands, challenges, and success criteria of platform consumers.
  • Previous experience in managing product lifecycle and strategy.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to turn the complex into plain speak.
  • Collaborative and relationship focused, able to build and sustain trusting and mutually beneficial relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Able to skillfully manage multiple conflicting priorities and stakeholders.
  • Able to manage business cases and budgets, and to express technical delivery in terms of business value.
