Operational Safety Specialist

Air New Zealand have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join The Quality & Safety Team as an Operational Safety Specialist in Auckland. You will be responsible for preparing and analysing technical data and providing technical advice to ensure the delivery of quality system and regulatory compliance requirements.

About the Role:

  • Conduct formal investigations to determine root causes and learnings from incidents, and assist in performing effective root cause analysis to improve safety and compliance
  • Provide specialist advice to business leaders on improving processes for safe and compliant operations, and facilitate risk management plans on behalf of the Quality & Safety Team
  • Lead and participate in strategic decisions to enhance business operations and streamline processes, including reviewing and approving compliance documentation (e.g., manuals, procedures, training standards)
  • Review and interpret civil aviation rules, regulations, and standards from New Zealand and other authorities worldwide, developing reasonable views on subjective interpretations and participating in discussions and decision-making
  • Produce and advise on written policies and procedures that are compliant, succinct, unambiguous, and user-friendly
  • Assist and manage external audits and capability requests by external customers and regulators and review proposed additions to business capability and associated compliance issues.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience and ability in producing technical data and reports in a timely fashion
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks to ensure safe and compliant operations
  • Proficiency in conducting thorough investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
  • In-depth understanding of civil aviation rules, regulations, and standards from New Zealand and other authorities worldwide
  • Expertise in producing clear, concise, and compliant policies and procedures
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with engineers, technicians, managers, and external stakeholders.
