Principal Software Engineer (SE Site Reliability Engineering)

We are seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer (Site Reliability Engineering) to be a part of our Connected Aircraft Squad of Brilliant Basics Enablement Tribe. This role will be under the Applications and Development chapter area, reporting to the Chapter Lead of Site Reliability Engineering and will be based at the Auckland Airport. As part of the role, you’ll be on an 24/7 on-call roster and will receive an additional on-call allowance for the time rostered on.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor the Operations and Support team who will maintain the operational integrity of Digital products and platforms and enable the execution of the Digital product roadmaps at Air New Zealand
- Work collaboratively with Product Managers to assess and manage the product strategy and roadmap and ensure they are technically feasible and successfully executed such that agreed service levels can be maintained.
- Lead minor projects for the enhancement of functionality, operational stability, and supportability of solutions to ensure business goals are achieved.
- Work collaboratively with other Leads across Software Engineering to ensure agile software delivery teams are appropriately supported, delivery milestones and quality targets are met, and system service levels are maintained.
- Define, develop, and implement best practices for Site Reliability Engineering, operations, and support to ensure the business requirements are met and solutions are fit for purpose.
- provide 24/7 support for our critical applications as part of the on-call roster.
Required Experience:
- At least 7 years relevant technical leadership experience or a Solution Architecture background.
- Solid experience in defining and managing product strategy and technical roadmaps.
- A solid background in coaching and mentoring technical teams and taking ownership of the technical outcomes of the team.
- Previous experience in leading operations and support teams delivering 24 x 7 enterprise-scale, business critical, customer-facing software solutions.
- Experience in deploying and supporting cloud-based applications, using cloud architecture principles to build infrastructure and applications that are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.
- Strong knowledge on automation and scripting
- Understanding of firewalls & load balancing technologies
- Knowledge and good understanding of the following areas:
- Networking, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, firewalls & load balancing technologies
- Windows Server, Linux Server
- Cloud Infrastructure
- Database Technologies (Oracle, Postgres, SQL)
- Widows Files Services
- Public Key Infrastructure
- Proficiency on desktop virtualisation technologies (Azure Virtual Desktop)
- MCSE / MCSA is advantageous.
