Project Leader - GSE and Tooling

As we prepare for the commissioning of key infrastructure works, Air New Zealand is seeking a GSE & Tooling Project Leader to manage a significant and complex work package. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the identification, relocation, procurement, and commissioning of critical GSE and tooling assets, supporting the successful delivery of the overall project.

Air New Zealand’s GSE & Tooling team plays a crucial role in ensuring operational excellence, on-time performance, and safety across our airline operations. Our team partners closely with engineering, maintenance, and operational stakeholders to provide fit-for-purpose GSE and tooling solutions that enable world-class aircraft maintenance and servicing. The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a GSE & Tooling Project Leader to join our Auckland-based team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you will work closely with internal teams, external project partners, and key stakeholders to deliver a large-scale GSE and tooling work package aligned to the commissioning schedule of a key infrastructure build.

This role is suited for a highly capable project professional with a strong understanding of GSE, tooling, compliance and aircraft maintenance operations. You will be expected to apply robust project management principles, ensuring the smooth transition of assets while mitigating key risks and meeting strict deadlines.

What you’ll get involved with:

  • Leading and delivering the GSE & Tooling scope, ensuring assets are identified, relocated, procured, and commissioned effectively
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate dependencies, schedules, and risk management activities
  • Managing project timelines, budgets, and milestones to ensure on-time and right-first-time delivery of outcomes
  • Establishing clear workflows for GSE and tooling assets, including relocation, disposal, procurement, installation, and commissioning
  • Engaging with safety and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory and airworthiness standards
  • Supporting ongoing improvements in GSE and tooling strategy and processes

To be successful in this role:

This is a complex and critical project management role requiring a combination of technical knowledge, structured planning, and stakeholder leadership

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience in project management, ideally within aviation, engineering, or a highly regulated industry
  • Strong technical understanding of GSE, tooling, and aircraft maintenance operations
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including project sponsors, engineering teams, and external contractors
  • Strong problem-solving and risk management skills, with a proactive approach to issue resolution
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Experience with process improvement and change management initiatives
