There is huge demand for insights from Air NZ’s unique and complex data landscape. We need Senior Analytics Engineers to work in cross-functional squads and bring robust, efficient and integrated data models and the underlying platforms that power them to life. Analytics Engineers speak the language of business and technical teams, translating data-driven questions into performant models while building the reliable, secure and scalable cloud foundations those models depend on.
The role you will play:
- Take a forward-looking approach to developing the core data infrastructure for analytics and data engineering capabilities at Air New Zealand.
- Collaborate with the team to gather business requirements, define analytics goals, and design data pipelines and models.
- Build trust in all interactions and with Trusted Data Development.
- Take ownership of key sections of the Enterprise Dimensional Model solutions and the infrastructure (terraform, CloudFormation, CDK) that deploys them.
- Develop and maintain dbt code for the Enterprise Dimensional Model and automate its deployment through modern DevOps practices.
- Maintain architecture and systems documentation following team standards.
- Manage the data catalog to support self-service and single-source analytics.
- Support business users and other team members in improving data literacy and learning modelling skills.
- Document models and curate metadata.
- Implement Data Ops principles in your work, including automated testing, observability and alerting for data pipelines.
- Co-develop and adhere to internal standards for style and best practices (e.g., SQL Style Guide) and maintain these through code reviews.
What you will bring to this role:
- Experience driving efficiency and improvements on data platform architecture.
- Knowledge of data-security best practices, network design for analytics workloads and cost-management in cloud environments.
- Experience leading technological advancements within your team. Keen interest in identifying gaps and opportunities such as tools, processes, AI.
- 5 + years in data analysis, data engineering and/or data infrastructure roles.
- 5 + years designing and implementing data models at enterprise scale and administering the cloud platforms that host them.
- 5+ years working with large-scale (1B+ rows) Data Warehouses/lake, in the cloud.
- 5+ years building data pipeline using integration tools, languages, and automation, ideally in AWS ecosystem.
- 5+ years creating project plans with clear tasks, milestones, and deliverables.
- Familiar with Agile way of working and decentralised analytics framework.
- Experience explaining complex business and technical concepts clearly.
- Strong communicator, able to achieve consensus across technical and business teams.
