Senior Fleet Strategy Specialist

Our Fleet Strategy team are a small but extremely knowledgeable and professional team who are responsible for buying, leasing and selling aircraft to achieve the airline’s future fleet requirements. Together with colleagues in engineering, integrated planning, and corporate finance, the Fleet Strategy team is responsible for defining the overall direction of Air New Zealand’s aircraft fleet. 

The role

The opportunity has arisen for a Senior Fleet Strategy Specialist to join the team, playing a key role in the team’s fleet development initiatives, including the performance evaluation of new fleet and performance enhancements for existing fleet types. Alongside this, you will also be a critical player in Air NZ's commercial relationship with a range of key suppliers, including aircraft manufacturers and lessors. A confident personality and strategic thinker, the ideal candidate will be comfortable developing and maintaining relationships with senior leaders both internally and externally.  

Key responsibilities 

• Lead the end-to-end process of assessing the operational and economic performance of new aircraft. 
• Identify and evaluate initiatives to enhance the performance of the existing fleet. 
• Manage engagement with key stakeholder groups to balance and calibrate different business needs to optimise the performance of new and existing aircraft. 
• Develop strong relationships with key aircraft OEM and industry partners to optimise outcomes for the airline.  
• Use influencing and communication skills, together with expertise of aircraft operational and economic performance, to gain senior stakeholder support for key strategic fleet decisions. 
• Support the Fleet Strategy team in negotiations and to contract documentation for the lease of aircraft and aircraft-related assets. 

About you 

• Degree qualified in Engineering or similar technical discipline. 
• Has the ability to combine technical understanding and analytical skills with long-term thinking and understanding of strategic imperatives. 
• Strong commercial acumen, intellect and professionalism, who is a valued advisor and trusted partner at all levels of the business. 
• Aviation experience highly regarded.
