Airline Strategy Specialist (Strategy Consultant)
Our Airline Strategy team at Air New Zealand is a small but extremely knowledgeable group responsible for defining the overall direction of our network and corporate strategy. This team plays a crucial role in shaping the airline’s future strategic goals. We are looking for an Airline Strategy Specialist to join us in driving strategic initiatives, evaluating new business opportunities, and enhancing our overall corporate performance.
The role
As an Airline Strategy Specialist, you will play a key role in various strategic initiatives. You will support the development of Air New Zealand’s corporate strategy and related strategic initiatives, develop comprehensive strategic cases, and monitor industry trends. You will also engage with stakeholders to optimise overall company performance and translate data into meaningful insights for senior decision-makers. Your work will involve close collaboration with Senior Leaders, the Leadership Squad, various Planning and Commercial Tribes, Corporate Finance, and operational areas as required.
Key responsibilities
- Provide research, analysis and insights to support the development of Air New Zealand’s corporate strategy and related strategic initiatives.
- Participate in enterprise-wide strategic projects.
- Monitor and analyse industry trends and compare with our domestic and international operations.
- Identify key market trends and highlight implications for Air New Zealand’s future.
- Engage with stakeholders to optimize the performance of various business units.
- Create hypotheses, execute analysis, and present recommendations to key decision-makers.
- Use influencing and communication skills, along with financial and economic analysis, to gain support for strategic decisions.
- Support discussions and engagements on matters influencing our network, fleet and overall company design.
- Recommend and implement network actions to drive revenue and cost enhancements across the company.
- Develop and deliver succinct presentations of proposed initiatives to senior leadership.
About you
To succeed in this role, you should combine strategic understanding with analytical skills and long-term thinking. You should have strong commercial acumen, intellect, and professionalism, being a valued advisor and trusted partner at all levels of the business. The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 3 years of professional experience in Management Consulting, Commercial Analysis, or Strategic Planning.
- Experience in strategy formulation and delivering results to key stakeholders.
- Ability to translate insights from analysis into tangible actions and recommendations.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations.
- Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, Mathematics, or similar.
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint (note this will be assessed throughout the interview process).
