Operational Safety and Risk Manager

Air New Zealand is entering an exciting new stage and to support this, the Quality & Safety Team have a vacancy for an Operational Safety and Risk Manager. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your leadership ability and your chance to be at the leading edge of shaping our organisational approach to how we manage our risk, and our laser focus on safety.

This role and the Operational Safety and Risk team are new to Air New Zealand, giving the successful candidate a unique opportunity to put your mark on how the airline approaches safety and risk.

The focus of this role is to provide world leading risk management techniques as well as guiding safety assurance to Air New Zealand Engineering and Maintenance accountable managers through investigations and SMS.  This includes not only the Engineering and Maintenance functions, but also the Maintenance Training School, the Design organization and the Manufacturing organization.

This is a diverse and interesting role as the Operational Safety and Risk team are responsible for a wide range of tasks.  These include guiding the approach we take to managing our risk to achieve a world class standard, as well as directing and setting the standard for investigations.

This is a role that requires a wide range of technical, commercial, communication and relationship management skills. You will be customer focused, eloquent in your communication and commercially astute with an ability to be able to compile reports that provide concise, relevant actions and recommendations to the business. 

Extensive experience in a Part 146 Design organisation is required for this role, and the successful candidate will be expected to become the New Zealand CAA approved Senior Person for SMS for Air New Zealand’s Part 146.  If you are considering this role you should ensure you are familiar with the requirements for becoming a Senior Person.

This is a busy environment so you will suit this team if you are a self-starter and can self-manage. You may have a lot of things on the go at once so your ability to multi-task is essential. The team are always keen to improve and keep up with industry best practice so if you have been involved in leading and facilitating improvement projects this will be an advantage.

We are looking for an all-rounder who also has demonstrated leadership skills and enjoys being stretched to grow with the team, both individually and with the business. To be successful in this role you will ideally have experience in aviation and be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of quality and safety management systems.
