Olivia Luxton is a Digital Intern at Air New Zealand and shares her career journey so far.
Being fresh out of university, I had a lot of ideas about what it would be like working at a digital-led organisation. I graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Accounting before joining Air New Zealand as an intern in the Digital and Direct Marketing team.
Throughout the course of my internship, I was exposed to a wide range of projects. While carrying out the day-to-day tasks such as editing content on the website and developing retail campaigns, my manager also allowed me the responsibility to own my own projects and to support complex pieces of work.
There were also several opportunities to present innovative ideas alongside other interns to the airline’s Senior Leadership Team as well as opportunities to network and focus on learning and development. Each week the interns met as a group to discuss our experiences and what we were working on. We also completed an amazing race activity where teams travelled around the country and got to go behind the scenes at various airports, opening our eyes to the operational side of the business.
In just a few months, the amount of knowledge I had absorbed was much more than I could have ever imagined and every day provided new learning and development opportunities.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about new opportunities and developing relationships that will challenge me and progress my career in digital marketing. I’m also very excited to be able to stay on board and continue my journey at Air New Zealand in the Digital and Direct Marketing team!
